Washington: US President Donald Trump in his first address to the nation after launching strikes on Iran said on Wednesday that Washington is on the "verge of completing its core war objectives" and also shared an update on 'Operation Epic Fury'.
Donald Trump while addressing to the nation, after launching strikes on Iran four weeks ago, said that his core "objectives are nearing completion" in Iran.
"From the beginning of Operation Epic Fury, we have said that we will continue until our objectives are fully achieved. Thanks to the progress we have made, I can say tonight that we are on track to complete all of America's military objectives shortly, very shortly," the US President said.
About 20-minute speech also called on countries reliant on the Strait of Hormuz to 'build up the courage' to secure it, arguing that the US doesn't "need it".
"We are going to finish the job, and we’re going to finish it very fast," he added.
Trump in his first address since the start of the conflict in late February said that, "Tonight, I'm pleased to say that these core strategic objectives are nearing completion.
After the speech, global oil prices rose to $105 a barrel.
Donald Trump said that four key objectives driving the US military campaign are destroying Iran's offensive missile capabilities, dismantling its missile production systems, neutralising its navy and broader security infrastructure, and ensuring that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons.
The US President said that the opponent's maritime and aerial capabilities have been destroyed.
"Iran's navy is gone, their air force is in ruins, its leaders, most of them terrorists, are now dead," Trump said.
The US President said that Iran's broader military infrastructure has been severely diminished.
"Their command and control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is being decimated as we speak, their ability to launch missiles and drones is dramatically curtailed, and their weapons, factories, and rocket launchers are being blown to pieces," the US President said.
