Trump Says US Ready for 'Strong Military Action' If Iran Talks Don't Work Out

Washington: US President Donald Trump on Monday warned that Washington is ready ​for "strong military action" if diplomacy failed. According to Trump, either the talks will proceed rapidly or the path to dialogue will be closed. His statement is being seen as increasing US pressure on Iran.

What did Donald Trump say?

Donald Trump said on Monday that he has paused US attacks on Iran to give talks another chance. But he clearly stated that if talks fail, he could order another major military strike. 

The US President in an interview said that there isn't much time left for negotiations with Iran. When asked how much time he's willing to devote to diplomacy, he bluntly stated that there's very little time left. The matter will either move forward very quickly or it will end completely. Trump's stance has further escalated the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

"We are in very deep talks with Iran. If they don't work out, we will go back to very strong military action," Trump said.

What did Iran say?

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei clarified that no external force will control the country's decisions. Washington will not decide whether there will be war or peace. Iran will take every necessary step to protect its borders and sovereignty. If diplomacy protects national interests, negotiations will take place, but no compromise will be made under pressure.
