Led by Deborah Ross and Ro Khanna, 19 lawmakers sent Trump a letter demanding that tariffs be rolled back. They argued that punishing India, the world’s largest democracy, hurts America too. According to them, the decision was rushed and lacked consultation. Such actions, they believe, only increase misunderstandings between allies.
The letter emphasized the shared democratic values of both countries. Lawmakers said that long-term partnerships should not be sacrificed for short-term politics. Their appeal reflects growing unrest in the US Congress.
The letter said Trump’s tariff hikes are disrupting supply chains across industries. American companies depend on timely supplies from India, and these restrictions are raising costs for families and businesses nationwide.
