International News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to attend the G7 summit to be held in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada, later this month. PM Modi himself has given information about this. He took this decision after a recent conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, in which the two leaders emphasized the strengthening of relations between India and Canada.

Although there has been diplomatic tension between the two countries in the last few months, India-Canada relations remain strong at the economic and social level. This summit holds special significance for India, especially amidst the tension with Pakistan due to the Pahalgam terror attack and then operation vermilion.

PM Modi gave information on social media

PM Modi wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, "He was happy to talk to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. He congratulated him on the recently held election victory and thanked him for the invitation to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis later this month. Both India and Canada are vibrant democracies bound by deep relations and will work with new energy on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests. His meeting at the summit is awaited".

India is not a member of G7, yet PM invited every year

India is not a member of the G7 countries, but since 2019, Prime Minister Modi has been invited to every G7 Summit. This time too, there was a doubt about Modi's involvement, due to which the opposition targeted the government, saying that the Prime Minister is being deliberately excluded. It is now clear that PM Modi will take part in the G7 Summit, which shows India's global importance.

The G7 includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and America, while the European Union also participates in meetings.

Justin Trudeau's politics increases stress

In September last year, the then Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged that the agents associated with India were related to the murder of pro-Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia. India had completely rejected the allegation and said that Canada was supporting extremists by accusing him without proof. After this, diplomatic tension between the two countries increased, the diplomats were expelled and the visa was banned.

Strong socio-economic relations between India and Canada

Despite these differences, Canada lives in Canada and more than 10 lakh NRIs live there, above three percent of the total population of Canada. In addition, around 427,000 Indian students are studying in various educational institutions in Canada.

Economically, the relations between the two countries are strong. Canadian pension funds have invested over 75 billion Canadian dollars in India. More than 600 Canadian companies are actively employed in India, while more than 1,000 other companies are looking for commercial opportunities in India. Indian companies are also expanding rapidly in Canada in areas such as IT, Finance, Health Services and Natural Resources.

Mark Carney has said on several occasions that relations with India are very important for him. The solution to India's security concerns from Ottawa will further intensify economic, investment, and social relations between the two countries.
