Gaza: The atmosphere in Gaza is already full of tension, and at such a time the killing of Yasir Abu Shabaab further complicated the situation. He was one of the most vocal opponents of Hamas and was gaining ground in Gaza with the support of Israel. His sudden death has raised many questions.
The report says that Abu Shabaab died not in any external attack but at the hands of people from the same group that he himself led. It is being said that he did not like Abu Shabaab's secret cooperation with Israel. The argument turned into a fight, and then the situation became so bad that he was beaten to death.
His deputy Rasan al-Dhini confirmed his death by posting a Quran verse on Facebook. This post also shows its impact and the feelings of the people in the Rafah area. Now it is believed that Rasan will become the new leader of 'Popular Forces.'
Hamas has been calling Abu Shabaab an agent of Israel for a long time. He claimed that he was connecting the tribal groups of Gaza with Israel. His fighters had clear instructions to find him, kill him, or capture him alive. His death has brought relief to Hamas, but it is a direct loss for Israel.
In June 2025, Prime Minister Netanyahu himself admitted that Israel had provided weapons to some groups, in which the Abu Shabab group is also believed to be included. However, no official statement came on this later. This is the reason why different types of stories are coming out regarding his death. Some reports say that he died during treatment in an Israeli hospital, but the hospital has completely rejected this.
Abu Shabaab's life was always amidst controversies. Sometimes a criminal, sometimes a prisoner, and then a militia commander. Hamas had sent him to jail in cases of drug smuggling, theft, and murder. He escaped from prison during air strikes during the Israel-Hamas war. After this, he formed 'Popular Forces,' which used to conduct sudden raids in Hamas areas and immediately return in the direction of Israel.
