International News:Republican leader Alexander Duncan's remarks have raised controversy over the 90 feet high Hanuman Temple—the 'Statue of Union' built in the Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple located in the city of Sugar Land, Texas. Describing America as a "Christian nation," Duncan said why there is an "idol of a false Hindu God" here. Duncan shared the video of the idol on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote: "Why are we allowing a false statue of a false Hindu God to be here in texas? We are a christian nation."

Also, he wrote, criticizing the Bible: "You must not have any other god but me"—Exodus 20:3-4.

Criticism of statement

This statement by Duncan led to a sharp response on social media and from organizations. The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) demanded action from the Republican Party, calling it "anti-Hindu and stimulating."

HAF wrote, x: "Hello @TexasGOP, will you be disciplining your senate candidate from your party who openly contravenes your own guidelines against discrimination—displaying some pretty sordid anti-Hindu hate—not to Mention disrespect for the 1st amendment's establishment clause?"

General users also reminded Dankan that the Constitution of America gives everyone freedom of religion. A user, Jordan Crower, wrote, "If you are not a Hindu, it does not mean that it is false. The Vedas were written about 2000 years ago and have an influence on Christianity. Therefore it should be honored and understood."
