New Delhi: US President Donald Trump heaped praise on India. He described India as a great nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a great PM, and declared himself a fan of the Prime Minister. However, during this interaction, US President Donald Trump made a rather curious claim. He stated that if India ever requires assistance, they know exactly whom to call upon.
US President Donald Trump asserted, "India can place 100% trust in me. If they ever find themselves in need of assistance, they know exactly whom to call. They call right here. We are doing exceptionally well; we are setting records. We possess everything that India aspires to attain—a record-breaking economy and a record-high stock market. I am a huge admirer of Prime Minister Modi. Mike is an outstanding individual; he will go down in American history as one of the greatest Secretaries of State. Please convey my regards to Prime Minister Modi and let him know that I am a very big fan of his."
It is worth noting that US President Trump made these remarks during an event held in Delhi to mark the 250th anniversary of American Independence. However, Trump himself was not physically present at the venue; instead, he joined the proceedings via a phone call to express his sentiments. Trump further added, "I love India. I simply wish to say 'Namaste' to everyone. I love the Prime Minister. PM Modi is a great leader; he is my friend."
India's External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, also participated in this event. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that both India and the United States share a deep commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He emphasized, "We must always maintain absolute clarity regarding a policy of 'Zero Tolerance' towards terrorism; indeed, that is precisely why our counter-terrorism cooperation holds such immense significance."
