Tel Aviv: Speaking at the Israeli Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India supports the Gaza Peace Initiative and that the agreement raises hopes for a just and lasting peace in the region. He also condemned the attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7th. Earlier on Wednesday, just hours after arriving in Tel Aviv for a two-day state visit to Israel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a standing ovation in the Israeli Parliament (Knesset). He is the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament. This is the Prime Minister's second visit to Israel in his 10-year tenure as Indian leader. PM Modi last visited Israel in 2017.
Addressing the Israeli Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that for the past few years, India has been the world's fastest-growing major economy. Soon, we will be among the top three economies in the world. He further stated that in the past few years, India has signed several important trade agreements with other countries. During his address, PM Modi stated that his teams are working hard to negotiate a major free trade agreement.
The PM further stated that the Jewish community has lived in India without persecution or discrimination. They have preserved their religion and fully participated in society. PM Modi stated that no reason can justify the killing of civilians. Nothing can justify terrorism. India has long suffered the pain of terrorism. We remember the loss of innocent lives, including Israeli citizens, in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Like you, we have a zero-tolerance policy for terrorism, with no double standards.

Addressing the Israeli Parliament, PM Modi stated that the Gaza Peace Initiative, approved by the UN Security Council, offers a path forward. India expressed its firm support for this initiative. We believe it holds the promise of a just and lasting peace for all the people of the region, including a resolution of the Palestinian issue. May all our efforts be guided by wisdom, courage, and humanity. The path to peace is not always easy, but India stands with you and the world for dialogue, peace, and stability in this region.
PM Modi further said, "I was born on the day India officially recognized Israel—September 17, 1950. On behalf of the people of India, I extend my deepest condolences to every life and every family whose world was destroyed by Hamas's ruthless terrorist attack on October 7. We understand your pain, we share your grief. India stands firmly with Israel, with full confidence, now and in the future."
Addressing the Israeli Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said, "It is a privilege and an honor for me to stand before this august House. I do so as the Prime Minister of India and as a representative of an ancient civilization, addressing another civilization. I bring with me the greetings of 1.4 billion Indians and a message of friendship, respect, and partnership."
