New Delhi: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of India's 80th Independence Day, expressing Tehran's desire to further deepen and expand relations between the two countries.

What was the Iran President's message?

The Iranian President in a message to PM Narendra Modi through the Iranain embassy in India, said that India's Independence day was an opportunity to boost the longstanding and comprehensive relations between Iran and India.

These historical, cultural and civilizational ties between the two countries as well as their people-to-people ties can provide an important basis for developing bilateral relations based on mutual interests, he emphasized.

What was Pezeshkian's opinion about Independence Day?

In his official Twitter handle, he wished Prime Minister Narendra Modi all the best and mentioned that the historic, cultural, civilizational and people-to-people linkages between the two countries is a great asset to bring brighter potentials in bilateral relations based on common interests, he added.

Emphasising the will of Iran to further strengthen comprehensive relations with India, the President added, "The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to take more effective steps to strengthen relations between the two countries and secure the common interests of the two nations, in light of mutual trust and respect and by utilising the extensive existing capacities."

In this message, President Pezeshkian "also prayed to God Almighty for the country of India to be proud, progress, prosper, and ever-increasing happiness and also for the long-standing relations between the two countries to be strengthened and flourished", the official website said.

What did Iran President say about the ties?

Pezeshkian also reiterated Iran's commitment to further deepening the comprehensive cooperation between Iran and India. Tehran was willing to make more serious efforts to develop bilateral relations and move forward in the mutual interests of these two countries in a climate of mutual trust and respect, he added.

The Iranian president also expressed his wish for the welfare, progress and prosperity of the Indian people and hoped for more development and growth of the long-standing ties between the two countries.
