Tehran: Iranian forces destroyed approximately 180 drones and also targeted a US F-35 stealth fighter jet. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, made this claim on Sunday. He cited this as evidence of Iran's growing military capabilities. According to reports, Ghalibaf stated that the attack on the F-35 was not an isolated incident but rather a premeditated operation, made possible by Iran's technical and design capabilities. He emphasized that the missile that landed near the F-35 served to demonstrate to the adversary the extent of Iran's capabilities and the direction in which it is advancing.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf remarked that this incident was executed deliberately to signal the progress made in Iran's defense technology. US military officials acknowledged last month that an F-35 jet was forced to make an emergency landing after sustaining damage from Iranian fire. Citing anonymous sources, CNN had reported that the aircraft had been subjected to a suspected Iranian attack. Linking these military incidents to diplomacy, the Speaker noted that while consensus has been reached on certain issues during talks with the United States, deep disagreements persist regarding numerous other matters.
The Iranian Speaker asserted that Western attempts to exert pressure and issue threats ultimately failed, paving the way for the commencement of negotiations. He emphasized that the adversary failed to achieve its objectives through warnings and imposed deadlines; consequently, it is now resorting to sending messages through intermediaries. Commenting on the recent ceasefire, he noted that the underlying motives for both parties differed. Iran accepted the ceasefire as a strategic maneuver to secure the fulfillment of its demands, whereas U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to it because Iran had emerged as the victor on the battlefield.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Donald Trump failed in his efforts to effect regime change in Iran and to dismantle its offensive and missile capabilities. He unequivocally declared that Iran is not Venezuela, and that the U.S. administration has proven unable to dismantle Iran's defense infrastructure. This indicates that Iran takes pride in its military capabilities and is leveraging them for diplomatic advantage. Targeting a state-of-the-art aircraft like the F-35 is being viewed as a demonstration of Iran's growing technological prowess. Although indirect talks between the two nations are ongoing, differences regarding key issues still persist.
