Tehran: Amidst the ongoing tension with America, Iran has made it clear that at present there is no question of a meeting between Donald Trump and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei's military adviser Mohsen Rezaei said in Tehran that it is useless to expect such a meeting under the current circumstances. He directly alleged that instead of taking the talks forward, America itself has put brakes on it. Rezai said, "Now Washington will have to take the initiative, we are waiting."

What did Tehran say on Trump's offer?

For the last few days, Trump has been claiming that he is ready for direct talks with Iran. Not only this, there were reports quoting sources associated with the White House that 'positive signals' have been received from Tehran on the nuclear issue. But Rezai blew this news away. He said that there has not been an iota of change in Iran's policy. “What America is showing is nothing on the ground,” Rezai taunted.

Where is the hindrance in reaching the negotiating table?

According to Rezai, the doors have not been completely closed, but the atmosphere is not suitable for conversation. “First build trust, then talk”, this is Tehran's stand. Iran believes that the US policy of continuous sanctions, threats and U-turns has destroyed all the bricks of trust.

Why is the dispute over the nuclear issue not being resolved?

The real problem lies here. The US wants Iran to tighten its reins on uranium enrichment and give inspectors more powers. Tehran's answer is that this is our right, not a matter of bargaining. Both are adamant on their respective lines. In such a situation, the hope of any deal does not seem far-fetched.

Why did the issue of frozen property heat up again?

Referring to the billions of dollars stuck in America, Rezai said that this is the money of the Iranian people. "Don't indulge in dacoity in the name of sanctions", he warned. In Tehran's view, unless this money is returned, it is meaningless to talk about any big deal.

What message is Iran giving by taking the name of Hormuz?

About 20% of the world's oil comes through the Strait of Hormuz. Rezai mentioned this path deliberately. In diplomatic circles, this is being considered a direct warning, if tension increases, oil supply will be affected and the market will be shaken.

Why is Tehran keeping an eye on American movements in the Gulf?

It is reported that America is sitting with its Gulf friends and calculating the damage caused in the recent conflict. Iran is seeing this as a preparation to open a new front against itself. Rezai clearly said that if pressure continues, Iran will also show retaliatory strictness.

Will the tension reduce in the coming days?

On paper the path to talks is open, but on the ground four big thorns are stuck, nuclear programme, frozen assets, sanctions and regional dominance. Rezai's attitude shows that unless America bows down, Iran too will not step back an inch. Now all eyes are on Washington to see what Trump's next move is.
