Israeli Army Ready to Advance Trump’s Peace Plan. (X)
Trump's Gaza peace plan: The Israeli military said on Saturday that it would advance preparations for the first phase of US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan. The plan includes ending the war in Gaza and bringing back the remaining hostages.
Israeli officials said the military is currently in a defensive position only and will not actively attack. They also stated that no troops have been withdrawn from Gaza.
The announcement came hours after Trump ordered Israel to halt bombing of Gaza. Hamas subsequently said it accepted some elements of Trump's plan. Trump welcomed Hamas' statement, saying, "I believe they are ready for lasting peace."
Trump appeared eager to fulfill his promises earlier this week, which included ending the war and bringing back dozens of hostages. The plan has received international support and has been endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu's office said Friday that Israel is committed to ending the war, which began after a Hamas attack, by October 7, 2023. However, some differences with the group remain.
An official told the Associated Press that Netanyahu issued a statement late Saturday saying Israel had begun preparations for Trump's plan due to pressure from the US administration. The official also said a negotiating team is ready to travel, but no date has been set.
