Israel Strikes Lebanon Vehicles, 12 Killed Including Two Children (X)
Beirut: Israeli drone strikes hit seven vehicles in Lebanon on Wednesday, killing at least 12 people, including a woman and her two children, the Lebanese health ministry said. Out of the seven vehicles, three vehicles were hit by a drone attack on a main highway south of the capital Beirut.
The Israeli military said it struck Hezbollah positions in several areas of southern Lebanon, hours after residents of six villages were told to evacuate.
Lebanon and Israel are expected to hold another round of direct talks in Washington on Thursday as President Donald Trump's administration in the US presses for peace between the two neighbouring countries, which have been at loggerheads since Israel's founding in 1948.
The Health Ministry confirmed the attacks in a statement, but did not provide details of the number of people in each vehicle.
Two of Wednesday's drone strikes hit the highway linking Beirut to the southern port city of Sidon, while the third struck near the city of Saadiyat.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed to have carried out further attacks on Israel. Hezbollah is also using drones in its attacks on the Israeli military.
Despite the US-brokered ceasefire on April 17, attacks between the two sides continue.
