US on Kashmir Issue: Pakistan has suffered another setback in the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. A senior US State Department official stated that Kashmir is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan, and that the US is not interested in exerting pressure or interfering in the matter.
This statement is unexpected for Pakistan, as it has long raised the Kashmir issue on the international stage. The official clarified that the US is leaving the issue to India and Pakistan and prioritizing its national interests under its "America First" policy.
India has long maintained that the Kashmir issue should remain bilateral without any third-party interference. Analysts believe this US stance is also a result of India's consistent diplomatic efforts.
The official stated that the US views India and Pakistan differently and will take steps that are consistent with its national interests. The press conference also stated that US President Donald Trump has many international issues to address, but is willing to mediate if necessary.
In his address to the United Nations General Assembly, Trump claimed his role in de-escalating the India-Pakistan conflict. A US official stated that the US had helped broker a ceasefire, but India has consistently maintained that third-party interference in Kashmir is not appropriate.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Pakistan launched some attacks, which India retaliated against. After three days of conflict, a ceasefire was declared on May 10, which Trump announced on social media.
Since then, Trump has consistently claimed that he helped de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan, a claim India has denied.
