Ukraine claims fresh attack on Crimean bridge (X)
Kerch Bridge Struck Underwater with Explosives in Vast Sabotage Operation
In a dramatic and symbolic attack, Ukraine's SBU security service confirmed on Tuesday that it had successfully struck the Kerch Bridge, an important logistical lifeline between Russia and Crimea, with 1,100 kg of explosives exploded underwater. Officials say that the explosion destroyed submerged pillars of the bridge, causing traffic to be halted for more than two hours.

The Kerch Bridge, frequently considered a crucial vein for Russian war supply to Crimea, has long been seen as a strategic priority. While earlier attacks destroyed surface infrastructure, this is the first underwater sabotage of its kind, and it questions Russian dominance and monitoring in the area.
In tandem with the bridge attack, Ukrainian troops conducted Operation Spiderweb, an elaborate and aggressive drone campaign that effectively destroyed a minimum of 40 Russian planes, such as strategic bombers and reconnaissance aircraft. The destruction inflicted upon Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 bombers, in addition to an A-50 radar plane, constitutes one of the most devastating hits against the Russian Air Force since the war started in 2022.
The mission employed modular houses as cover to smuggle drones into the enemy territory. Once inside striking distance, the drone carriers were remotely activated, opening their roofs to eject the UAVs. The calculated ruse and execution stunned Russian defense authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky celebrated the operation as "an absolutely brilliant result," claiming that the mission was "achieved solely by Ukraine."
Only hours after Ukrainian strikes, Russian drone attacks hit civilian zones throughout northern Ukraine, killing at least three and injuring dozens. Fires raged through residential and business properties in Chernihiv after drone bombings. Officials said four individuals were taken to the hospital and 20 more, including eight children, were given emergency care at the scene. In Sumy, two civilians were killed and a further 20 injured in the same type of attacks.
Balakliia, which is close to Russia, was also targeted. Military governor Vitali Karabanov reported a "massive UAV strike" on Telegram. Residential houses were damaged in Odesa but no casualties.
Ukrainian military analysts have estimated that Russia lost more than $2 billion in assets, including advanced surveillance planes and bomber jets. It markedly diminishes Russia's long-range aerial attack capabilities and could change future offensive strategies. The loss of these resources not only harms Russia's control of the skies but also projects an overwhelming message regarding Ukraine's changing military cleverness specifically in drone warfare.
At the same time, talks of peace between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Turkey failed to yield much. Moscow required Ukrainian territorial giveaways and military reductions as preconditions for talks, demands Kyiv described as "tantamount to surrender."
Ukraine's government holds that there can be no compromise on sovereignty or territorial integrity particularly after successful counterattacks have improved national morale.
