Khalistani militant Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has been in the news again with his provocative remarks, this time amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan. Pannu, chief of the banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), has come out in support of Pakistan and cautioned that if India attacks, it will be the "last war" for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and New Delhi.

Pannu's threats and assertions

In his recent video statement, Pannu said any conflict between India and Pakistan will be an "opportunity" for Punjab to separate from India and create Khalistan. He also added that if India strikes Pakistan, Punjab will be separated from India and Khalistan will be created. Pannu also mentioned that the Sikh community will join hands with the Pakistan Army and feed them langar (food) in case of a war.

Pannu's history of provocation

Gurpatwant Singh Pannu has a long record of issuing inflammatory statements and holding rallies in nations such as Canada, where he has shown objectionable effigies of Indian leaders, including deceased Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and present Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He has been designated as a terrorist by the Indian government under the UAPA Act and has been trying to revive the Khalistan issue in Punjab with the help of ISI.

Pannu's appeal to UN

Pannu also appealed to the Pakistani government to take the question of Khalistan to the United Nations and organize a referendum in Punjab. According to him, anti-Indian Army and pro-Khalistan slogans are being scripted in Punjab, and Sikh soldiers are being prevented from waging war against Pakistan.

India's response

The Indian government has acted firmly against Pannu's activities, declaring him a terrorist and taking steps to limit his influence. India has warned that if Pakistan is attacked, the consequences will be disastrous in response to Pannu's recent remarks.

Pannu's inflammatory rhetoric and actions

Gurpatwant Singh Pannu's inflammatory rhetoric and actions have given rise to apprehensions regarding the possible ramifications of a war between India and Pakistan. Pannu's record of instigating violence and propagating secessionist politics has rendered him a serious national security threat. The global community needs to be aware of Pannu's activities and implement necessary measures to avert further escalation.
