Tehran: The US military said on Monday that Kuwait 'accidentally' shot down three US Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle planes during a combat mission during attacks by Iran. According to the US Army's Central Command, the battle included attacks by Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles and drones. This is the first time that Iran's old fighter aircraft fleet has actively participated in the war.
The Central Command said, 'Fighter jets of the US Air Force were shot down by Kuwaiti Air Defense by mistake.' All six aircrew managed to eject safely, have been evacuated safely and are in stable condition. Kuwait has acknowledged the incident and the US military has expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Kuwaiti Defense Forces for their support in the ongoing operation.
Many videos of F-15 fighter planes shot down in Kuwait are becoming increasingly viral on social media. In a viral video, the pilot can be seen ejecting just before the plane crashes. In the second video, a fighter pilot is shown being rescued safely by local people and Kuwaiti authorities after the jet fell.
F-15 Strike Eagle is a fighter aircraft, which is used to achieve air superiority and conduct strike missions.
F-15C Eagle: 108 aircraft (Air National Guard)
F-15D Eagle: 8 aircraft
F-15E Strike Eagle: 218 aircraft (active duty)
F-15EX Eagle II: 8 aircraft (in service, and on order)
Total: 334 F-15 aircraft in active service.
The F-15 Eagle is an all-weather tactical fighter jet developed to achieve and maintain air superiority. It has been designed with a high thrust-to-weight ratio and low wing loading, giving it fast acceleration and excellent maneuverability. It is capable of taking sharp turns without much loss in airspeed. Its capability is supported by twin turbofan engines and lightweight airframe, which is suitable for air combat operations.
This aircraft is fitted with a multi-mission avionics suite, which includes features like head-up display, pulse-Doppler radar, inertial navigation system, electronic warfare system and identification friend or foe (IFF). Its radar can track and detect targets over long distances and at different altitudes, even flying near the ground. All information is fed to a central computer that helps guide weapons control, while a head-up display provides essential flight and targeting data to the pilot without having to look down.
The F-15 is capable of carrying a variety of air-to-air weapons, including AIM-120 AMRAAM and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, as well as a mounted 20 mm M61A1 cannon. It has two seats, and is equipped with superior quality avionics, allowing operations to be carried out both day and night in all weather conditions. It is equipped with terrain-following capability and improved radar system, which allows fast entry at low altitude.
The incident of downing of F-15 planes has happened at a time when tension has increased significantly in the Middle East. The situation has worsened after the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the attacks by America and Israel. Iran is now targeting American targets across the region and is talking about taking revenge for Khamenei's death. At the same time, America and Israel have warned Iran not to escalate tensions further.
