Colombian Senate member Uribe shot (Social media)

International News: A sensational incident came to light from Colombia's capital, Bogotá, on Saturday, which has shaken the country's politics and security system. Opposition party's presidential candidate and senator, Miguel Uribe, was attacked during an election program. The attacker shot Uribe in the back during a meeting held in a public park, leaving him seriously injured. At present, he has been admitted to the hospital, and his condition is said to be stable.

Fired in the middle of the program

This incident is from the Fontibon district of Bogota, where Senator Uribe was addressing a local meeting. Suddenly a person took out a gun and opened fire in the middle of the program, causing panic. According to eyewitnesses, the attack was done from very close range, and the senator was shot in the back. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where his treatment is going on.

Attack arrested, hospital on alert

Bogota Mayor Carlos Galan informed the media that the attacker had been arrested on the spot. He also said that if there is any change in Uribe's condition, he will be shifted to a bigger hospital. That is why all the big hospitals in Bogotá have been put on alert.

Sharp reaction of the government and the president

Colombia's President Gustavo Petro strongly condemned the attack and wrote an emotional post on social media, saying, "This is not just a political attack; it is an attack on our motherland." He also expressed condolences to Uribe's family and assured them that the culprit will get strict punishment. At the same time, in the official statement issued by the government, this incident has been described as "an attack on democracy."

Uribe's mother was also a victim of violence

Senator Miguel Uribe's mother, Diana Turbay, was a well-known journalist who was kidnapped by the gang of notorious drug mafia Pablo Escobar in 1991. She died during a rescue operation at that time. This family background made Uribe active in politics, where he has always talked about giving priority to justice and security.

Fear of increased political violence in the country

After the incident, there is deep concern about security in the political streets of Colombia. Many leaders have described it as a pre-planned attack. At the same time, the opposition party, Democratic Center, has also condemned the attack and called it an insult to democracy. They have demanded that more security should be provided to the leaders during election campaigns.
