Tehran: Iran has made a major change in its military leadership amid the ongoing military conflict with America. Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has made new appointments to the top posts of the army. Under this, Major General Ali Abdollahi has been made the new chief of Staff of the armed forces of Iran. At the same time, Brigadier General Ahmed Wahidi has been appointed as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps i.e. IRGC. He has also been given the rank of Major General.

Information about these appointments was given in a statement issued by the office of Mojtaba Khamenei. It is believed that this is his first major reshuffle in the military leadership after assuming the post of Supreme Leader.

Who is the new chief of Staff Ali Abdollahi?

Ali Abdollahi was earlier holding the responsibility of the head of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters. It is Iran's Joint Military Command, which coordinates military operations and actions between different branches of the military.

Abdollahi has previously taken a tough stance against America and its allies. Earlier this month, he had warned regional countries that if any country acts as a defence shield for America, then it too can become vulnerable to conflict.

Why did Ahmed Vahidi get the command of IRGC?

Brigadier General Ahmed Vahidi has now been given the command of Iran's powerful military organisation, the IRGC. He has also been promoted to the rank of major general.

IRGC is a very important part of Iran's military and security system. The change in the leadership of the organisation is being considered very important amid increasing tension with America and regional conflict.

Mohsin Rezai also got big responsibility?

Just a day before the change in military leadership, Iran appointed former IRGC commander Mohsen Rezaei as the new secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. President Masoud Pejeshkian handed over this responsibility to Rezai.

Rezai served as commander of the IRGC from 1981 to 1997. He led the organisation throughout almost the entire period of the Iran–Iraq War. After this, he has also held many important political and security positions.

What responsibility did the former security chief get?

Mohammad Bagher Jolghadra was earlier the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. After his resignation, he was made the political advisor to Mojtaba Khamenei.

In this way, continuous appointments are indicating major changes in Iran's military and security system.

What is Iran's stance on the Strait of Hormuz?

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most important issues in the ongoing tension between America and Iran. This sea route is extremely important for global energy trade.

Mohsin Rezai has already described Iran's control over this strategic waterway as extremely important. At a time when military tension between America and Iran is at its peak, the appointments of new military and security officials are considered important for Iran's future strategy.

Why are these appointments important for Mojtaba Khamenei?

Mojtaba Khamenei has assumed the post of Supreme Leader of Iran after the death of his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. These changes in the military and security system under his leadership are being considered very important.

The new military leadership will have a big challenge to deal with sensitive issues like the ongoing conflict with America, regional security and the Strait of Hormuz. Through these appointments, there are also indications of Mojtaba Khamenei strengthening his hold on the military and security system.
