Balen Shah is the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. He is also a Nepali rapper. He won the mayoral election in 2022 by defeating the candidates of Nepali Congress and CPN (UML). He is the 15th Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Time magazine placed him in the list of top 100 in 2023. Born on 27 April 1990 in Nardevi, Kathmandu, Balen Shah is a graduate in civil engineering. Born in a Madhesi family, Balen Shah's father was an Ayurvedic doctor.

Balen Shah has always had a conflict with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and this conflict has now taken the form of violence in Nepal. Last year, Balen had warned the Oli government, saying, "I don't know who will protest. If our employees don't get their salaries within the next week, I will bury them all in pieces. We will deal with your system later." After the growing tension between the two on several issues, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had broken his silence and called Balen a careless boy.
