Authorities confirmed the identities of the five victims, including 65-year-old Shankar Kumar Jha from Bihar, India. Others who lost their lives included 60-year-old Pinky Changrani from East Brunswick, New Jersey, and 22-year-old Zhi Hongzhuo from Beijing, China, along with 55-year-old Zhang Xiaolan and 56-year-old Jian Mingli, both residents of New Jersey. Their sudden deaths have caused immense grief among their families and shocked the communities they belonged to.
According to Provincial Police Chief Andre Rey, the crash occurred around 12:30 pm on Friday. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver of the bus became distracted and lost control of the vehicle, which resulted in the bus overturning on the busy highway. Officials have not yet confirmed what exactly caused the distraction. Investigators are carefully examining all possible factors, including road conditions, driver fatigue, and technical faults.
The impact of the accident was so intense that several passengers were flung out of the bus, while many others were left trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Rescue teams quickly reached the scene and launched immediate relief operations. Firefighters and paramedics worked together to pull survivors from the wreckage. Sadly, five adults were declared dead on the spot, while others were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Chief Rey said that several passengers suffered minor injuries, but thankfully, no additional life-threatening cases have been reported. The quick response of rescue teams helped save lives and provided immediate medical care to those in need.
The bus was carrying a mix of Indian and Chinese nationals, along with several American passengers. Many of them were tourists who had been visiting Niagara Falls and were on their way back to New York City.
