Nimisha
International News: The hanging of Kerala-based Indian nurse Nimisha Priya in Yemen may have been stopped for the time being, but a statement has again increased her troubles. In fact, the family of the deceased Talal Abdo Mahdi has completely rejected all attempts of compromise and pardon. Meanwhile, Talal Mahdi's brother Abdelfattah Mahdi made an emotional and strong statement and made it clear that only Qisas, i.e., revenge, is acceptable to his family.
After the stay on the execution, Talal Mahdi's brother Abdelfatah wrote in a Facebook post that now that the execution has been postponed, it is sad for us because we had already rejected all kinds of compromises and Diya's proposals. Those who are trying to stop the execution know that we do not accept any kind of compromise.
Abdelfatah Mahdi alleges that after the murder, not only was the truth suppressed, but false stories were fabricated to further increase the suffering of his family. Talking to the BBC, he said that we are not only broken by that painful crime, but the long and tedious trial that followed was no less than a torture for us. This was a heinous and absolutely clear crime. In fact, Nimisha is accused of killing Talal by giving him an overdose of anesthesia and then cutting the body into pieces.
However, she claimed in court that Talal Mahdi abused her physically and mentally, snatched her money, confiscated her passport and threatened her with a gun. But Abdelfatah has completely denied all these things and said that there is no truth in these allegations. My brother never threatened Nimisha or confiscated her passport. All these stories were fabricated so that the crime could be justified. He clearly says that "Whatever story of abuse has come out from Nimisha's side is nothing more than a lie and a rumor.
Nimisha Priya was sentenced to death by a Yemeni court in 2020. In 2017, she killed her Yemeni business partner Talal Abdo Mahdi. It is claimed that Mahdi used to torture Nimisha and was preventing her from returning to India. During this time, Mahdi was killed, whose body was later found in pieces. Nimisha's hanging was scheduled for 16 July 2025, but on 15 July the Yemen administration postponed it. This was also confirmed by India's prominent Sunni religious leader Kanthapuram A. P. Abubakar Musliyar. He spoke to influential scholars of Yemen and intervened in favor of Nimisha. After this, a government letter from Yemen informed about stopping the hanging.
