North Korea: North Korea has once again attracted the attention of the whole world with its missile power. Pyongyang recently conducted a ground test of a high-efficiency solid fuel rocket engine, with leader Kim Jong Un himself present. This engine is made of composite carbon fiber material and its maximum thrust was recorded at 2,500 kilonewtons. This test has taken place at a time when North Korea is continuously sharpening its long-range strike capability and the uneasiness of many countries including America is increasing.
In the previous test conducted in September 2025, the thrust of the engine was 1,971 kilonewtons; this time it is much more than that, and the figure of 2,500 kilonewtons has been touched. This engine is being prepared for use in the Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) currently under development.
According to KCNA report, Kim Jong Un described the test as 'extremely important' in taking the country's strategic military capabilities to the highest level. He said that this is completely in line with the national strategy and the military's demand for modernization of strategic forces. Not only this, Kim also inspected the performance testing of the new main battle tank and the training of special operations forces that day.
KCNA clarified that the test is part of a new five-year national defense development plan aimed at upgrading the country's strategic strike assets. Experts also say that North Korea's efforts may also be in the direction of making more efficient rocket engines and developing smaller ICBMs that can be launched from submarines or other vehicles.
Solid fuel rockets are more stable and can be launched faster while remaining undetected. They can be launched in mere minutes, whereas liquid fuel missiles require hours of preparation before launch. during which time the enemy can detect and destroy them. i.e. solid fuel technology makes it more difficult for the enemy to target.
