OIC Under Fire: Ignored Iran, Failed to Deliver on Muslim World Issues (Source: livehindustan)
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), formed to protect the rights of Muslims worldwide, is now facing serious questions. After the recent attack on Iran, the inaction of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, i.e., OIC, has once again come to the fore. After more than 50 thousand deaths in Gaza and years of atrocities on the Uighur community in China's Xinjiang province, a report has come out regarding the silence of the OIC on the recent incident. In this report, citing intelligence sources, it has been said that the OIC is a failed body and the organisation is not in a position to help anyone.
Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) represents 1.9 billion people in 57 nations with a majority of Muslims. However, after the release of this report, questions have been raised about its ability. A media report quoted sources as saying, "This is an eye-opener for the Muslim community. It shows that the OIC is a failed body and has nothing to offer. The organisation is struggling with failure."
The report also said that the OIC remained silent on the massacre in Gaza and the oppression of the Uighurs, and now Iran has also got nothing. In such a situation, it has completely failed to protect Muslim interests in times of crisis. Let us tell you that after the US attack on Iran, the OIC issued a statement. However, America was not named anywhere in it.
According to the report, a major drawback of the OIC is its decision-making system. The organisation works on consensus. However, in most cases the opinions of the countries are divided. Apart from this, political rivalry also dominates between these countries, due to which the group is unable to take any decision.
For instance, a large number of OIC members have close relations to both the US and Europe. Countries like the UAE, Bahrain and Turkey are engaged in improving relations with Israel. In such a situation, even after the Israeli attack on Gaza, Muslim countries cannot openly show hostility towards Israel. This is the reason why the group has passed more than 31 resolutions against Israel since 2023, but all these resolutions remain ineffective. At the same time, due to economic dependence on China, the OIC is also silent on the atrocities being committed against the Uighur community.
