Russian President Vladimir Putin has called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi and strongly condemned the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Putin described the attack as a "heinous act against innocent people" and expressed confidence of extending full support to India in the fight against terror. A total of 26 people, most of them tourists, were killed in the April 22 attack. The attack not only shook the country but also raised questions on the peace of the valley. Putin expressed deep condolences to the families of those killed in this painful incident.

Emphasis on punishing the culprits

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "President Putin called up Prime Minister Modi and strongly condemned the attack in Pahalgam, expressed condolences on the loss of innocent lives and expressed full support to India in the fight against terror." "All those behind this heinous attack and their supporters must be brought to justice," Putin said.

Support comes amid India-Pakistan tensions

The Russian President's support comes at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan are once again deepening. After the attack in Pahalgam, India has directly targeted Pakistan and demanded strong action against terror on global forums.

Strengthening Russia-India Strategic Ties

However, this attitude of Putin further strengthens the traditional and strategic relations of India and Russia. Over the years, the two countries have deepened cooperation in areas such as defence, energy and international security. This phone call is another indication of the strength of these relationships.
