Terrorist attack on Pakistan Army: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) carried out a major attack in the troubled northwestern region of Pakistan in the early hours of Saturday. At least 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed and four others were injured in this ambush. Administration and security officials have confirmed the incident. According to the information, the attack took place in South Waziristan district at around 4 am when an army convoy was passing through the area.
According to local officials, the terrorists suddenly started firing with heavy weapons. The firing continued for a long time in retaliation, but the soldiers suffered heavy losses. Apart from the dead soldiers, four were seriously injured. It was told that the attackers also took away the weapons and equipment of the army and fled to safer places.
The TTP itself has claimed responsibility for this attack. This is believed to be the biggest attack in recent months in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Taliban once had a strong hold in this region, which was eliminated by the Pakistani army after a major military operation in 2014. But since the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan in 2021, violence has increased again in Pakistan.
Pakistan alleges that the Afghan Taliban has failed to stop terrorists operating in its territory. Their presence helps the TTP, which later launches attacks in Pakistan. However, the Kabul administration has repeatedly rejected these allegations. Experts believe that there are deep ties between the two groups, making the challenge for Pakistan even more difficult.
Recently, TTP slogans and posters have been seen on the walls in many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This has increased the fear among the common citizens that the era when the terror of Taliban dominated this entire area may return once again. A senior officer said that the movement and attacks of TTP fighters have increased in the last few months.
AFP records show that since January 1, 2025, about 460 people have been killed in terrorist incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Most of these include security forces personnel. At the same time, according to a report of a research institute, 2024 was the bloodiest year for Pakistan in almost a decade when more than 1,600 people were killed in violence, more than half of whom were soldiers and policemen.
