After Diplomatic Blow, Pakistan Looks to China; Iran’s Trust Deficit Deepens (OpenAi)

New Delhi: Pakistan has suffered a setback in its efforts to reduce the ongoing tension between America and Iran. Islamabad had taken the initiative to start talks between the two countries by presenting itself as a mediator, but this effort could not progress. Pakistan has now contacted China so that the stalled process can be restarted.

Were initial talks inconclusive?

According to sources, the ground for talks was made, but no consensus could be reached on any important issue. Differences between the two sides regarding sanctions, security and regional influence remained the same, due to which the talks could not move forward.

Has Iran distanced itself?

Indications are that Iran avoided talks under pressure and also did not seem completely satisfied with Pakistan's role. This was the reason why the pace of conversation suddenly slowed down.

Why was there a need to include China?

In this situation, Pakistan turned to China. China has strong relations with Iran and has played an influential role in regional affairs. Pakistan hopes that China's presence can provide a new path to talks.

Is any new formula being prepared?

A new framework is under discussion at the diplomatic level. Points like security, economic cooperation and regional stability are being included in this so that a basis acceptable to both sides can be created.

Where is the problem between America and Iran?

The lack of trust between the two countries is still the biggest obstacle. America remains firm on its stance, while Iran remains cautious about talks under pressure. The initiative is getting stuck again and again in this tussle.

Will this affect Pakistan's diplomatic credibility?

This obstruction in the role of mediator is being considered as a setback for Pakistan. Islamabad has been trying to present itself as an active and reliable mediator at the regional level for some time, but this development has also exposed its limitations. Now the initiative to bring China together is being seen in this context so that not only the talks move forward, but Pakistan can also maintain its role on the international stage.

Is there scope for further talks?

Although the current situation is not easy, the possibility of talks is not considered lost. If both sides show some leniency and China plays an active role, the deadlock can be broken. At present this process is in a period of uncertainty.
