New Delhi: The Pakistan Navy has conducted a successful test of a newly developed anti ship ballistic missile from one of its warships. The missile was fired from a Pakistani built vessel and hit the designated target accurately. Officials have not revealed the exact name of the missile. However, defence sources confirmed it is designed to destroy enemy battleships directly at sea. The video clip of impact was shared on social media. It has triggered fresh discussion within defence circles.
According to reports, the missile is fully made using domestic technology. It is launched from naval platforms and remains stored on board ships. It has the ability to strike targets in the ocean as well as select locations on land. The projectile flies at high speed and can change direction mid flight. Due to advanced design, it is difficult for enemy radar systems to detect. Its strike accuracy is claimed to be extremely high by Pakistani authorities.
Pakistan Military Press Wing ISPR released a statement after the test. It said the successful launch will further boost the capabilities of the Navy. The President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Army Chief and Navy Chief congratulated the engineering teams. Leaders described the trial as a major proof of national strength. Defence analysts believe the development is part of an aggressive show of modernisation. It also aims to project growing maritime power.
Since rising tensions with India in May 2025, Pakistan has frequently showcased different weapon systems. In September, the Army tested the Fateh 4 cruise missile with a range of 750 kilometres launched from land. That trial was followed by various guided weapon demonstrations. Now the Navy has introduced a ballistic missile capable of being fired from ships. Experts see this as a bid to upgrade strike options across multiple domains.
This new system allows Pakistani naval ships to attack enemy vessels from long distance even without entering direct combat zones. The missile travels to high altitude before diving sharply towards the target which makes interception difficult. Analysts suggest it could strike hostile ships within minutes. The development may influence Indian naval planning. However officials clarified these are just tests and not indicators of imminent conflict.
India already operates stronger and more advanced missile systems such as BrahMos, Nirbhay and Agni series. Some missiles are known for supersonic and long-range capabilities. Defence experts state India remains technologically ahead despite Pakistan’s new test. Yet both countries appear engaged in an arms race at strategic level. Military officials hope such rivalry stays confined to testing and deterrence. Dialogue and stability remain essential to maintain regional peace.
For now, the missile demonstration is part of Pakistan’s effort to strengthen maritime force projection. Authorities claim this will enhance security along sea routes. Several experts warn such developments can raise tension in the area. Regional powers are closely watching how the system evolves. Both countries continue to modernise defence systems. As of now, no war related activity has been reported. The display is mainly technological and symbolic in nature.
