Islamabad: The deal to end the war in Iran is coming into effect "immediately" after both sides signed it, but a formal signing ceremony will take place on Friday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the leaders of both the US and Iran have signed the agreement and approved him as a mediator.
Taking to X, Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif in a post said that the deal "will come into effect immediately and as a first step, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the United States of America will immediately lift the naval blockade."
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan and co-mediator Qatar will host an official signing ceremony in Switzerland on Friday. His post came shortly after US President Donald Trump said he had signed the agreement during a dinner at the Palace of Versailles.
US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian both digitally signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday laying out terms for ending the war, according to officials.
According to the White House, this process wasn't limited to the signing in Versailles. According to reports, US Vice President JD Vance and Iran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, had already digitally signed the document. This process was reportedly completed in Trump's presence.
According to a reports, the agreement covers not just a ceasefire, but also broader issues such as oil, nuclear programs, economic sanctions, and maritime trade.
