Islamabad: A wedding ceremony in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday turned into a disaster when a suicide bomber walked among the guests and blew himself up. The explosion was so strong that even before people could understand anything, there was an outcry. At least seven people died and 25 were injured in this attack.
According to police, the attack took place at the house of Noor Alam Mehsud in Dera Ismail Khan district. He is considered a pro-government community leader in the area. A wedding ceremony was going on in the house and a large number of relatives and neighbors were present.
Eyewitnesses reported that people were dancing and music was playing. Then there was a loud explosion. The roof of the room where the program was going on collapsed. Dust, debris and blood spread everywhere. Many people were buried under the debris, which took a long time to be pulled out.
Initial information has revealed that peace committee leader Wahidullah Mehsud, known as Jigri Mehsud, was also among those killed. Officials said one of the deceased was a man who was earlier associated with the terrorist organization but had later given up arms and was supporting the government. The remaining deceased are said to be his relatives.
All the injured were taken to the nearest hospital. Doctors say that the condition of many people remains critical. An emergency has been declared in the hospital.
After the blast the entire area was surrounded. Police and security forces launched a search operation to find out whether the attacker was alone or there were other people behind him.
Till now no organization has claimed responsibility, but suspicion is being cast on Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). This organization has already carried out several attacks in this province.
In the same month, four members of the peace committee were shot dead in Bannu district. Also in November 2025, an office of the Peace Committee was attacked in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which seven people were killed.
