Pakistani FM Ishaq Dar Suffers 'Hairline Fracture' After Fall While Greeting Egyptian Counterpart

Islamabad: Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who is mediating the Iran war, has sustained a "hairline fracture" in his shoulder while receiving Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Sunday, his son Ali Dar confirmed.

Ishaq Dar stumbled and fell while receiving Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Sunday. He fell during reception of Egyptian counterpart in Islamabad and later continued with the  high-stakes quadrilateral talks on West Asia crisis.

How did Ishaq Dar fell?

Ishaq Dar while welcoming Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty at the Pakistani Foreign Office stumbled and fell on the floor, injuring his shoulder and legs.

In the video that is being widely shared on social media, shows Ishaq Dar stumbling and falling. People present at the scene then picked him up.

The incident occurred during a quadrilateral meeting hosted by Pakistan, attended by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. 

Crucial backchannel talks aimed at easing tensions between the US and Iran were held in Islamabad, positioning itself as a key diplomatic bridge in the ongoing conflict.

What did Ishaq Dar's son say?

Ishaq Dar' son, Ali Dar, said that his father has broken his shoulder. 

In a post on Instagram, Ali Dar wrote, "Ishaq Dar sahib, despite sustaining an injury during the reception of the Egyptian Foreign Minister today, completed all highly important meetings throughout the day on painkillers, Alhamdulillah, in the best possible manner."

Ali Dar said he underwent a medical checkup around 9 pm after all official engagements had concluded. The X-ray revealed a hairline fracture in his shoulder.

Taking to Instagram, Ali Dar wrote, "His X-rays are overall fine. There is a hairline fracture in the shoulder. In the coming few days, his pain will be managed through medications and other precautionary measures. Thank you all for your messages, prayers, and kind wishes."

What is a hairline fracture?

A hairline fracture, also known as a stress fracture, is a very thin, fine crack in the bone. It doesn't break the entire bone in two, but rather just creates a small, line-like tear on its surface. If ignored, it can develop into a major fracture. 

What was the meeting about?

The four-country meeting brought together the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt. It was part of a coordinated regional effort aimed at calming the Iran conflict. More than a month into the war, the conflict has raised fears that it could escalate and disrupt global energy supplies.

Pakistan, claiming to remain neutral in the Iran war, is primarily playing the role of mediator. 

Pakistan has conveyed the US's 15-point proposal to Iran and is exchanging messages. On Sunday, Pakistan hosted a meeting of the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt, in which efforts were made to end the war and de-escalate.
