Karachi: During a meeting in the Liari area of Karachi, senior Pakistani MP Maulana Fazlur Rehman directly raised questions on Pakistan's military actions. He said that if Pakistan justifies its attacks in Afghanistan, it is difficult to object to the action taken by India under Operation Sindoor. He made this statement as a criticism of the strategy led by Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir.
Fazlur Rehman argued that if Pakistan considered its attacks justified, then it could not be "justified" to object to India's attack. He said India attacked terrorist groups' hideouts in Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Kashmir, as Pakistan did in Afghanistan. According to him, the logic of both the situations cannot be kept separate.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India on 7 May 2025. During this operation, Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on some terrorist targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including areas of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. This retaliatory action was taken after the terrorist attack in which 26 civilians were killed.
Maulana's statement is being seen as a debate within Pakistan on military policy and the country's foreign policies. There is also discussion about the fact that Pakistan's policy also includes tensions related to the Taliban-Afghanistan, because many Pakistani leaders have also used critical language regarding Afghanistan.
After Operation Sindoor, tension between the two countries had increased, and a military standoff was also seen on the border for a few days. Later the tension subsided to some extent, but such political statements indicate that the matter still remains in the political and security discussion of both countries.
Apart from this, political experts say that this statement has also started a new debate on the relationship between the army and politics within Pakistan. Some analysts believe that when an MP questions the decisions of the military leadership in an open forum, it shows the growing discontent within the country and confusion over policies. In the coming days, this issue may become more intense, from Parliament to media debates, because there does not seem to be a uniform opinion in Pakistan regarding Operation Sindoor.
