Seychelles: Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Seychelles on June 27, Saturday. He was there for a three-day official visit. The President of Seychelles, Patrick Hermani, broke protocol to welcome him at the airport. Modi thanked him for welcoming and great gesture. Modi said Seychelles is an important maritime partner in the Indian Ocean and a close friend. He said he is excited about the visit. The goal is to strengthen old ties and increase cooperation between the two nations.

What Modi will do?

Modi will attend the golden jubilee celebration of Seychelles' national day. He will have talks with President Hermani. The two will discuss ways to make the relationship stronger. PM Modi said, "I am going to Seychelles where I will attend their national day celebration. This year is even more special because it is the golden jubilee. This year marks 50 years since India and Seychelles established diplomatic ties. Our relations are based on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity and deep people-to-people bonds." Modi will address the Seychelles National Assembly and will be the first Indian PM to do this. It will be the historic.

What about Indian military presence?

Indian armed forces will take part in the celebrations. Two Indian Navy warships will be there. Indian military personnel will participate in the golden jubilee events. Modi last visited Seychelles in 2015.

Where is Seychelles?

Seychelles is made up of 115 islands spread over 455 square kilometers and is situated in the western side of Indian Ocean. It sits along northeast of the Madagascar. It is about 1,600 kilometers east of mainland Africa (Kenya). Mostly, the economy of this country runes on tourism and industrial fishing. It is famous for white sand beaches, coral reefs, and rare wildlife. Millions of tourists visit this place every year. The capital city of this country is Victoria that sits on Mahe Island.

How is the India-Seychelles relations?

The two countries have a long partnership. It is based on shared history, culture and people-to-people ties. Seychelles is important to India as it is a maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean. It is a key partner in India's "Vision SAGAR", means Security and Growth for All in the Region. The two countries work together on marine security. They prevent piracy and do naval patrols. India had given Coast Guard naval ships, and Dornier aircrafts to Seychelles. This year marks 50 years of diplomatic ties between the countries. The visit is a celebration of that milestone. It shows how close the two nations are.
