President Trump Expresses Heartfelt Condolences After Devastating Mid-Air Collision Between Passenger Jet and Military Helicopter Near Washington D.C.

World News: President Donald Trump expressed his condolences late Wednesday following a tragic mid-air collision involving a passenger plane and a military helicopter near Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. The incident, which led to the plane crashing into the Potomac River, has triggered a significant emergency response, with authorities working diligently to gather details.

Presidential Response to the Tragedy

In a statement, President Trump remarked, "I have been fully briefed on the terrible accident. May God bless their souls." He commended the swift actions of first responders, describing their efforts as "incredible," and assured the public that further updates would be shared as more information became available.

Details of the Collision

The accident took place around 9 PM when a Bombardier regional jet operated by PSA Airlines, an American Airlines subsidiary, collided mid-air with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter. The jet was approaching Reagan National Airport after departing from Wichita, Kansas.

Although the plane can accommodate up to 78 passengers, it was reported to be carrying approximately 60 individuals at the time of the crash, though these numbers remain unverified.Kansas Senator Roger Marshall took to social media platform X to describe the incident as “nothing short of a nightmare.” He urged prayers for both victims and first responders while calling for more information from authorities.

Emergency Response Efforts

The wreckage of the plane was located in the dark, near-freezing waters of the Potomac River. Emergency responders, including fireboats, were dispatched to the site; however, recovery efforts faced challenges due to the cold and darkness. Washington police confirmed that multiple agencies were involved in responding to the crash, but no official information regarding casualties had been released as of late Wednesday.

Witnesses recounted a shocking scene just moments before the collision. Ari Schulman, who was driving home at the time, reported seeing "a stream of sparks" trailing from the plane, which appeared "lit up a very bright yellow" before it fell from the sky.

FAA and Investigation Updates

In response to the accident, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded all flights at Reagan National Airport. Authorities have committed to investigating the cause of this tragic event. American Airlines has acknowledged that Flight 5342 was involved but has not yet disclosed specific details regarding the incident.
