Three Powerful Earthquakes Strike Russia Back-to-Back, Tsunami Alert Issued

Several strong earthquakes hit eastern Russia one after another, making people very scared. The tremors measured 6.6, 6.7, and 7.4 in strength on the Richter scale.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported the incident.  The GFZ (German Research Centre for Geosciences) said the earthquakes happened near the eastern coast of Russia’s Kamchatka region. The epicenter was located 10 kilometers below the surface. Initially, the magnitude of the first earthquake was reported as 6.2, but it was later revised to 6.6.  The most powerful earthquake among the three had a magnitude of 7.4.

Epicenters of the Three Tremors

The first earthquake, measuring 6.6 in magnitude, originated 10 kilometers below the ground. The second tremor occurred at approximately the same depth. The third and strongest quake, measuring 7.4, had its epicenter 20 kilometers below the surface.

Tsunami Alert Issued

Till now, there is no loss of life that has been reported in this region. However, due to the tremors, there is a risk of a tsunami in nearby ocean areas. A tsunami alert has been issued for Hawaii in the United States.

Major Earthquake in 1952

On November 4, 1952, a very strong earthquake hit Russia's Kamchatka region. It was measured at 9.0 in magnitude. After the quake, a huge tsunami also hit Hawaii and nearby areas.
