Moscow Issues Stern Warning to US, South Korea, and Japan Over Anti-North Korea Alliance Plans

World News: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Saturday cautioned the United States, South Korea, and Japan against forming a security alliance aimed at isolating or confronting North Korea. He made this statement during his visit to the North Korean city of Wonsan, where he met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and delivered a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Growing Closeness Between Russia and North Korea

Relations between Russia and North Korea have significantly strengthened in recent years. According to reports, North Korea has been providing weapons and soldiers to support Russia in the Ukraine war, and in return, Russia is offering economic and military assistance.

This partnership has raised concerns in the United States and its allies, who fear that Russia may help North Korea obtain nuclear and missile technologies, further escalating instability in the Asian region.

“Do Not Form Alliances”: Lavrov’s Strong Message

After meeting North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, Lavrov accused the US, South Korea, and Japan of escalating tensions in the region. He said, "We warn against forming any alliance that targets Russia or North Korea. Such actions are not acceptable."

Rising Military Activities in the Region

Lavrov’s statement came at a time when the US, South Korea, and Japan are conducting joint military exercises, including US nuclear-capable bombers near the Korean Peninsula. These drills are seen as a response to North Korea’s expanding nuclear arsenal.

North Korea has long described such exercises as “preparations for invasion” and justifies its nuclear weapons program as a necessary defense against external threats.

Lavrov Supports North Korea's Position

Lavrov stated that the technologies being used by North Korea are a result of the efforts of its own scientists. He said, "We acknowledge North Korea's stance and respect the motivations driving its pursuit of nuclear development."

Support for Russia in the Ukraine War

During the talks, Choe Son Hui reaffirmed North Korea’s full support for Russia in the war against Ukraine. In response, Lavrov expressed gratitude for the contribution of North Korean troops in defending Russia’s Kursk region from Ukrainian attacks.
