International News: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has recently announced a Russian drone strike on a railway station in Shostka, Sumy Region. At least 30 people were injured in the attack. Zelenskyy posted on social media platforms that all emergency and rescue teams have arrived at the scene and are working to assist the injured. He added that, according to preliminary information, both UkrZaliznytsia employees and passengers were present at the station at the time of the attack.
Regional Governor Oleh Hryhorov also confirmed the attack and said that a train heading to Kyiv was damaged. He said that medical personnel and rescue teams were on the scene, and that treatment and relief work for the injured was underway. Hryhorov stressed that first aid was being provided immediately and all victims were being evacuated.
Photos shared by Zelensky and Hryhorov showed a passenger car engulfed in flames at the railway station. The images give an idea of the severity of the situation. Officials said the station and surrounding area were immediately evacuated after the accident to prevent further damage.
The injured include both passengers and railway employees. Rescue operations and transportation of the injured to hospitals are underway at a rapid pace. Security agencies have increased vigilance in the surrounding areas and urged local residents to stay in safe places.
President Zelenskyy described the attack as part of Russian aggression, saying that such attacks not only damage infrastructure but also endanger the safety of civilians. He appealed to the international community to take steps to ensure civilian safety in Ukraine.
The local administration has issued a warning to all passengers and railway personnel to exercise caution and follow all instructions. Police and emergency services are continuously patrolling the scene. According to officials, a thorough investigation is underway into the attack and the perpetrators will be identified and strict action will be taken.
