Jaishankar, Marco Rubio Meet Today: First Talks After Trump’s Tariff, Key to Easing US-India Tensions (Social Media)

International News: Amid the increasing tension between India and America, Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday. The meeting will be held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and is considered very important for bilateral relations between the two countries. A statement issued by the US Advisory said that the meeting will discuss tariff controversy, trade and other diplomatic issues. It is believed that the two leaders will hold concrete talks towards improving the deteriorating relationship in recent months.

Business talks also start from today

This meeting holds special significance in view of the bitterness in the relationship between Delhi and Washington. On Monday, ministerial talks on trade between India and the United States are beginning in Washington. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has reached the US with his delegation. Both sides will try to remove differences and move towards a beneficial trade agreement.

First meeting after tariff dispute

In August, the Donald Trump administration decided to impose a tariff of up to 50 percent on Indian goods. This step became the main cause of increasing tension between the two countries. After this decision, this will be the first meeting of S. Jaishankar and Rubio.

Onset of stress and other issues

The decline in relations between India and the US began with Trump becoming President in January. In May, Trump claimed to have a ceasefire on the military conflict between India and Pakistan, which India strictly rejected. Since then, diplomatic tension between the two countries has increased.

In addition, the US has been continuously objecting to India's oil purchases from Russia. The threatening language was also used by the Trump administration and American officials about India. After increasing the tariff in August, the recent H-1B visa decision has directly affected Indian professionals. This meeting of Jaishankar and Rubio is taking place at a time when there are many complex issues between the two countries. Experts believe that if a positive solution is found in this meeting on important controversies like tariffs and visas, then it can prove to be helpful in bridging the rift in relationships.
