Terrorism is a constant threat to development, said S Jaishankar (Social Media)
S.Jaishankar On Terrorism:External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar warned on Thursday that terrorism remains the biggest obstacle to global development. He said the international community should neither tolerate nor encourage terrorist activities in any form.
Speaking at the G-20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, Jaishankar said that countries that take action against terrorism are actually serving the entire world. Without naming the United States, he said that double standards on this issue are extremely dangerous and must be eliminated.
Jaishankar clearly stated that development is possible through peace, but if development is threatened, peace cannot last. Citing recent years, he said that both peace and development have declined simultaneously. Amid the current global economic instability, making basic needs like energy more uncertain would not be in any country's interest. According to him, the solution lies not in conflict but in dialogue and diplomacy.
The Foreign Minister also emphasized the need for a global workforce in the program of the Observer Research Foundation. He said that due to demographic conditions, many countries are unable to meet their labor demand, and now everyone will have to accept this reality.
The comment has come at a time when US President Donald Trump has imposed a new fee of $100,000 on the H-1B visa, hardening the immigration policy. The biggest impact of this decision is expected to affect Indian professionals, because only Indians have the largest share of this visa. Jaishankar said that in the last few years, the debate has been limited only to supply chains and production sources, but now it is equally important to ensure that the market remains stable and reliable.
