Dubai: On Friday night, the US and Iran launched attacks on each other's infrastructure and military bases. US Central Command stated early Saturday that surveillance sites, military logistics, and underground arms storage facilities were targeted during the strikes—marking the seventh consecutive night of such attacks. However, several US troops were injured in Iran's retaliatory strikes.

What happened in Iran's attack on Jordan?

Multiple US officials told CBS News that Iran had attacked at least two military bases in Jordan this week, injuring several American soldiers. Details regarding the injured US troops have not yet been released.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed on Friday that they had launched fresh attacks on US military bases in the Middle East. The IRGC claimed to have struck bases located in Syria, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and Jordan.
US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that "several US troops were injured" in attacks on at least two Jordanian bases used by the US military. There have been no reports of fatalities among US or Jordanian troops; clear information regarding the number of injured soldiers and the severity of their injuries is not yet available.
The US Department of Defense has neither confirmed these injuries nor responded to the report. US fighter jets frequently operate from Jordanian military bases, though the US does not publicly disclose details about all the bases its military utilizes.

What about US Military Presence in Jordan?

The primary US military presence in Jordan is at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base; while it is a Royal Jordanian Air Force base, the US has significantly upgraded and expanded it.
US fighter jets, drones, and support forces are stationed there, and in recent times, it has also served as a hub for potential operations against Iran. Additionally, there is a small outpost named Tower 22 in northeastern Jordan, near the Syrian border. US troops are also present at the Prince Hassan Air Base, King Faisal Air Base, and various other training and border posts.
In total, approximately 3,000 to 4,000 US troops are deployed in Jordan. Iran has carried out attacks on two US-linked bases in Jordan—specifically the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base and the Prince Hassan Air Base.

Why did Iran attack Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan?

According to Iranian claims, these bases were attacked using ballistic missiles and drones, targeting fighter jets, command centers, and drone hangars. While Jordan's air defense system intercepted some missiles, US troops sustained injuries.
Iran claims to have targeted US military installations at Camp Al-Udeiri and Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan, and Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. According to Iran, these strikes targeted ammunition depots, aircraft shelters, fuel storage facilities, headquarters buildings, and strategic bridges.
The IRGC separately claimed that Iranian ballistic missiles targeted US fighter jets stationed at Jordan's Muwaffaq Salti Air Base.
Footage released by open-source intelligence accounts shows multiple MIM-104 Patriot interceptors being launched as missiles approach the base, followed by at least two instances of impact—indicating that the Patriot interceptors failed to intercept all of Iran's missiles.
Tehran has claimed that US troops suffered casualties in its retaliatory strikes. On Friday, the IRGC stated that it had targeted US fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft in Jordan, as well as US forces and HIMARS launchers in Kuwait, resulting in "significant casualties and damage." Meanwhile, the Jordanian military reported on Saturday that it had shot down 10 Iranian missiles, with no casualties or damage reported. In a statement, the military said, "Air defense systems intercepted 10 Iranian missiles that had entered Jordanian airspace and were targeting areas within the country; they were intercepted and shot down."
