Kathmandu: Sushila Karki is going to create a new history in Nepal's politics; she is going to become the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal. President Ramchandra Paudel will administer the oath to her. There is now a broad consensus on her name among Gen-Z supporters. Kathmandu Mayor and PM candidate Balen Shah has also supported her. Earlier, the name of Kulman Ghising was in discussion for this post, who has worked in Nepal Electricity Board.
Sushila Karki has long been the face of anti-government movements in Nepal. While being the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, she gave many such decisions that were against the corruption of the Nepal government. These steps made her popular, especially among Gen Z.
73-year-old Karki has also been the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal. She was born on 7 June 1952 in Biratnagar, Nepal. On 11 July 2016, she assumed the post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. However, a year later, on 30 April 2017, an impeachment motion came against him, and he was suspended from the post.
Karki is the eldest of seven children of her parents. She did her BA in 1972 from Mahendra Morang Campus, Biratnagar. After this, in 1975, she did her master's in political science at Banaras Hindu University, India, and in 1978, she got a law degree from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. A year later, she started practicing law.
In a recent interview, Karki spoke positively about the relations between India and Nepal. He shared memories of his teacher and friends at BHU and remembered the beauty of the Ganges River.
Karki said that the relationship between governments in India and Nepal may be different, but the relationship between people and people is very strong and friendly. He respected PM Narendra Modi and said that he has always been inspired by Indian leaders. Born in Biratnagar, Karki lives near the Indian border and regularly visits the border markets. It is also clear from her view that her presence in power in Nepal sends a positive signal to India.
