At least 25 people are feared dead after a school bus carrying students and teachers on a field trip caught fire on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday. The tragedy has also left 16 passengers hospitalized, according to the Thai government.

While the exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed, Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated that around 25 people are believed to have lost their lives. The full extent of injuries and fatalities remains under investigation.

Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit reported that 16 students and three teachers have been hospitalized for treatment. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire that engulfed the bus.

Early images shared on social media showed thick grey smoke billowing from the burning bus, with parts still aflame. The fire was eventually extinguished, but not before causing significant damage. The images captured by the reporters’ shows the fire trucks, police, and rescue teams surrounding the charred remains of the vehicle, with firefighters stationed at the entrance.

Tragic Loss for Uthai Thani community

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra confirmed that the students were on a field trip from Uthai Thani province, located approximately 250 km (155 miles) north of Bangkok.
