The Trump administration has once again urged visa holders living in the United States to strictly follow the law. Green cards and visas will be cancelled if the law is broken, according to a warning sent to immigrants.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) emphasised that living in the U.S. is a privilege, not a guaranteed right. As a result, people convicted of major crimes risk losing their visas or green cards. Such offences include supporting or promoting terrorism.
Since a large number of Indians aspire to obtain U.S. visas, this strict policy from the Trump administration may become a significant concern for them.
USCIS shared a post on social media platform X, showing an image that reads: "Green cards and visas will be cancelled if a foreign national breaks the law."
The caption of the post further reads: "Coming to the United States and receiving a visa or green card is a privilege. Visa holders must respect our laws and values. After receiving a visa, you are not permitted to remain in the United States if you support terrorism, call for violence, or incite others to do so.
Although USCIS did not mention any specific case, it made it clear that violating U.S. laws can result in serious consequences, including deportation. This warning follows the recent announcement by U.S. authorities. The government's recently announced “Catch and Revoke” policy, which targets immigrants who violate American laws.
In May, the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi issued a special advisory for Indian citizens living in the United States. It strongly advised visa holders not to overstay their permitted duration. Violators could face legal action and a lifetime ban on reentry into the United States.
Back in April, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had also emphasised in a statement that a visa is a privilege, not a right, and cannot be demanded as an entitlement. He said that visas are only for individuals who respect American laws and values. Rubio further noted that the Trump administration’s strict immigration policies are in the best interest of the American people and will continue.
