Trump Says ‘Ceasefire Alone Won’t End War’ After Meeting Putin; Zelensky to Visit U.S. (Image Source: Reuters)
Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump met in Alaska on Friday to discuss the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Before the meeting, many hoped that a major breakthrough could happen. After their talks, however, no clear decision came out. Trump said that the best way to end the war is through a direct peace agreement and that just a ceasefire will not be enough to stop the fighting.
Trump made it apparent that Putin had not accepted a ceasefire after their meeting. Meanwhile, reports are also emerging that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be heading to the United States. It is worth noting that after meeting Putin, Trump had a long phone conversation with Zelensky and NATO leaders, after which Zelensky decided to visit the U.S. on Monday.
Following the phone call with Trump, Zelensky said that they had a long discussion on Saturday. Ukraine is prepared for a meeting with the United States, Russia, and Ukraine. He wrote on the social media platform X, “Ukraine is fully prepared to make every possible effort to establish peace. We support President Trump’s tripartite meeting between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States. This meeting could prove to be the best option for discussing key issues between us.”
