America’s Double Standards Exposed (Social Media)

National News: The United States has once again raised questions about India's energy strategy, but this time, India has responded with clarity and conviction. While Washington fumes over India’s purchase of discounted crude oil from Russia, an uncomfortable truth has come to light—it was the U.S. itself that encouraged India to do so. This revelation comes straight from former American ambassadors and top officials.

We Wanted India to Buy Russian Oil

A video featuring former U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti has surfaced online and is quickly gaining traction. In the clip, Garcetti plainly admits, "India buys oil from Russia because we wanted a country to do so within a certain price range to help maintain global market stability... India has been a key part of that strategy."

This candid admission comes at a time when former President Donald Trump is ramping up pressure on India to halt its Russian oil imports.

The Truth: America Backed India's Russian Oil Deals

Garcetti isn’t the only one to make such a claim. Back in 2022, then U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen openly stated that India had full autonomy to purchase Russian oil—even above the price cap—as long as it didn't rely on Western services.

Her statement to Reuters was clear: "India and its private oil companies can buy oil at any price they want—just not using Western shipping or insurance."

This clearly indicates that America had no objection to India’s oil imports from Russia when it suited their interests. Now that India is strengthening its energy independence, the U.S. appears increasingly uneasy.

India: A Responsible Global Player Ensuring Market Stability

In February 2024, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Jeffrey Pyatt recognized India’s vital contribution to global energy stability, stating that India has been instrumental in maintaining balance in the international oil market through its continued imports of Russian crude.

This acknowledgment highlights that India’s actions have not only served its national interests but also helped prevent volatility in global oil prices.

India Hits Back at Trump’s Threats

Despite imposing a 25% tariff on Indian imports, Donald Trump has continued to criticize India for purchasing oil from Russia. He has alleged that New Delhi is supporting Moscow in the Ukraine war and benefiting economically by processing and reselling Russian oil.

But this time, India issued a firm rebuttal: “India determines its energy strategy based on what best serves the country's sovereign and economic interests. The U.S. stance is unfair and hypocritical. Ensuring affordable energy for our citizens is our priority—and we will not compromise on that.”

India also raised a critical counter-question: “Isn’t the U.S. itself importing uranium from Russia? If so, what gives it the moral authority to question others?”

India’s Energy Policy: Built on Sovereignty, Strategy, and Stability

India has made its position crystal clear—its energy policy is shaped by market dynamics, strategic interests, and public welfare, not by foreign pressure. Today, India stands as the largest buyer of Russian seaborne crude oil, a move driven by national interest and global responsibility.

The Hypocrisy is Clear—and the World is Watching

The facts are undeniable. The U.S., which once urged India to purchase Russian oil for the sake of market stability, now criticizes the very same actions. But India is no longer staying silent—and the world is beginning to understand that India is not just a consumer in the global energy economy but a responsible, sovereign leader.
