London: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has refused to participate in a war with Iran. In a major snub to US President Donald Trump, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer asserted on Wednesday that Britain would not be drawn into the Iran war which is currently raging in the Middle East.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer made it clear that Britain would not get involved in a conflict with Iran. However, he also stated that he would host a global summit to discuss ways to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This statement by the British Prime Minister comes as a major blow to the United States, which has yet to receive support from any NATO nation regarding a war with Iran. Trump has also taken aim at NATO countries over this issue. Meanwhile, President Trump is scheduled to hold a press conference tomorrow morning.

What did British PM Keir Starmer say?

The British Prime Minister stated, "It is becoming increasingly clear that deeper ties with Europe are essential for the UK's long-term interests." He further added, "The war with Iran is not our war." The British Prime Minister went on to say that the opportunities to "strengthen our security and reduce the cost of living" are "too significant to be ignored." He also announced that a summit with EU allies would be held in the near future.

What did Britain Announce?

During a press conference, the British Prime Minister was asked about the possibility of joining a war with Iran. The inquiry referenced a threat made by Donald Trump, in which the U.S. President "threatened to withdraw from NATO." Trump had warned that the United States would no longer step forward to assist the UK. Responding to this, Prime Minister Starmer stated, "I have faced considerable pressure to alter my stance regarding involvement in a war with Iran, but I will not change my position on the conflict." He further asserted, "Regardless of the pressure, and no matter the volume of the noise, I am the Prime Minister of Britain, and I must act in accordance with our national interests."

What did Donald Trump tell NATO nations?

Yesterday, on 'Truth Social,' Donald Trump told his allies—including the UK—that "you people must now learn to fight for yourselves. The United States will no longer be there to come to your aid." Trump has also repeatedly and specifically targeted both the UK and Starmer. The BBC has reported that, following repeated criticism for refusing to participate in NATO conflicts, Donald Trump is considering withdrawing the United States from the alliance. All eyes are on Trump's press conference tomorrow; he may announce the US withdrawal from NATO at that time.
