Islamabad: Pakistan currently remains at the center of the global community's attention. Delegations from the United States and Iran are present in Islamabad to discuss de-escalating the conflict between their nations, and Pakistan is fully capitalizing on this opportunity for publicity. However, amidst these developments, Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir did something that drew the world's attention. Notably, while the Pakistan Army Chief arrived in full military uniform to welcome the Iranian delegation, he appeared in a black suit when he arrived at the Noor Khan Airbase to welcome the US delegation.

Asim Munir's distinct choice of attire while welcoming the two delegations became a focal point for experts in global politics. Analysts suggest that Munir's clothing choices can play a subtle diplomatic role, as changes in attire often reflect the tone and nature of high-level meetings. Munir's shift from military uniform to a black suit for the U.S. delegation signals his attempt to project himself as more of a statesman and diplomatic leader, while simultaneously upholding the institutional military prestige conveyed by his uniform earlier in the day.
It is noteworthy that ever since assuming the role of Pakistan Army Chief, General Asim Munir has consistently intervened in Islamabad's political landscape. The nexus between the military and political parties in Pakistan is a well-known fact, and Munir appears to be further reinforcing this dynamic. Asim Munir had previously accompanied Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump—an action that subsequently sparked questions and criticism within Pakistan itself regarding the propriety of his conduct. In this context, his presence at the airbase to welcome both delegations serves to underscore the military's firm grip on Pakistani politics.

Prior to this, representatives from Iran and the United States—having agreed to a ceasefire following five weeks of conflict—are currently present in Pakistan. Representing the United States, Vice President JD Vance, President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff have arrived; meanwhile, representing Iran, Foreign Minister Araghchi and Ghalibaf have arrived.
According to media reports, peace talks between the United States and Iran are scheduled to take place today at Islamabad's Nur Khan Airbase. Prior to the talks, both sides held separate meetings with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Reports suggest that, during their meeting with Sharif, the Iranian delegation intends to raise the issue of Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon.
