Trump Talks TikTok as US-China Trade Talks Continue
International News:Talks for a trade agreement between the US and China have begun in Madrid, Spain. Trade tensions between the two countries have increased over the past few months, but political contacts have been maintained.
The US side is being led by Finance Minister Scott Bessant and Trade Representative Jameson Greer. On the other hand, Deputy PM Lifeng is involved in the talks from China's side. The purpose of the talks is said to be to resolve trade issues between the two countries and increase economic cooperation.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump made an important comment about TikTok. The deadline for the Chinese social media platform in the US was earlier, in January 2025, but later it was extended to September 17. Trump told reporters, "Whether TikTok will work in the US or not depends entirely on China. We do not have any definite information yet on whether it will be closed or the period will be extended." He also said that TikTok is very popular among children and youth and is used for both entertainment and education. According to Trump, the US wants the digital experience of the youth not to be disrupted due to TikTok, but the decision will be taken keeping in mind the rules and security.
In August, Trump had indicated that US companies are ready to buy TikTok. He said that he wants this platform to remain active in the US, but any American buyer will have to follow the rules to buy it.
Experts say that this dialogue is strategically important for both countries. Trade tensions, technology exchange, and investment issues between the US and China are included in the talks. During this, both sides are not only trying to resolve trade issues but also want to maintain a balance in political and economic relations.
According to experts, this dialogue will not only give direction to American and Chinese companies, but its effect can also be seen on the global economic market.
