Washington: A positive sign has emerged amid the ongoing tension between America and Iran for several months. There are reports of a draft of a 60-day temporary agreement being prepared in the recent talks between the representatives of the two countries. However, the final approval is yet to be given on this. According to sources, the agreement will not be considered implemented until US President Donald Trump and Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei give it formal approval.
This proposal is being considered important in diplomatic circles because its objective is not only to reduce immediate tension but also to open the way for talks on the long pending nuclear issue. It is being told that after the implementation of the agreement, normal movement of ships will be restored in the Strait of Hormuz and steps will be taken towards limiting military activities in the area.
According to information quoting sources, Iran's top leadership has not yet given formal approval to this draft. This is the reason why final consent has not been given even by America. Although the talks at the interlocutor level have been positive, the final decision rests in the hands of the supreme leadership of both the countries. For this reason there is still uncertainty regarding the agreement.
Iran's enriched uranium is one of the major issues in the proposed agreement. It is being told that the first goal of the talks to be held in the next 60 days will be to create an environment of trust regarding Iran's nuclear program. The draft also mentions that Iran will reiterate its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons. In return, America may consider providing relief from some sanctions and pressures.
The proposal to completely open the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world's most important maritime trade routes, is also said to be part of the agreement. Under this, the movement of international ships will be normalized and no additional charges will be imposed on them. This is expected to provide relief to global oil supply and maritime trade.
According to the draft, Iran will have to identify and remove naval mines laid in the Hormuz area. In return, the US will gradually ease its naval blockade around Iranian ports. It is believed that the objective of this process is to restore maritime security and ensure safe movement of merchant ships.
Analysts believe that if this agreement is implemented, the US-Iran tension that has increased in recent months can be reduced to a great extent. This will also open the way for fresh talks on the nuclear issue. However, one cannot be completely assured about this agreement until the final approval is received. At present, the eyes of the world are fixed on the next step of Washington and Tehran.
