US-Iran Talks To Resume After Khamenei's Funeral, Pakistan Announces

New Delhi: Pakistan announced on Thursday that positive progress has been made toward implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States. The next meeting will be held as soon as possible following the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

According to the statement from Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, Qatari and Pakistani mediators held separate meetings in Doha with negotiators from both the US and Iran.

What is the imminent discussion about?

According to the sources, the indirect talks between the US and Iran in Doha on Wednesday mainly focused on executing the MoU signed in Islamabad on June 17. The discussions covered the issue of Iran's frozen assets and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Will both the sides be there?

According to the Pakistani statement, both sides have agreed to continue their talks in the future, and the date for the next meeting will be finalized right after Ali Khamenei's funeral.

Khamenei's funeral will be held in Tehran this Friday. He passed away on February 28 of this year following a US and Israeli attack in Tehran. Foreign leaders, officials, and religious figures will be present to pay their respects.

What the Iranian minister had said?

Ali Akbar Porjamshidian, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister and head of the funeral organizing committee, stated that multiple farewell ceremonies and funeral processions will take place. The late Supreme Leader will be buried on July 9 in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad.
